The purpose of Cursillo is to change our surroundings with the Gospel. Technically, pre-cursillo is looking for areas where we live in this world that are in need of such change and once the area is selected then begin to select individuals in those areas who have the characteristics to effect such change and invite them to make a Cursillo. Over the years this ideal has evolved to a point of reversing itself. We are now more apt to select individuals first. then after the Cursillo weekend it is hoped that they will go back and change the areas where they live and work.
The current method is now to select individuals who want to deepen their knowledge and love and relationship with Christ. And, many individuals are selected because they are suffering and have lost their way. Whatever the case, a characteristic that should be looked for is courage. The courage to live a Christ like faith and not hesitate to sharing Christ with others. Remember our unofficial motto, "make a friend, be a friend and bring a friend to Christ". It needs to be stated that Cursillo is not for everyone and caution in selecting individuals is of utmost importance. This is another issue that space will not allow us to expand on now.
One of the most important elements of pre-cursillo is cusillistas living as another Christ. If we are, it makes the "sale" much easier. It is easy to entice individuals who are searching and it is also easy if what they see in cursillistas is something they would acquire. Once we have their attention it would be wise to invite them to the Ultreya and even to Spiritual Group. We want to answer all their questions and certainly to be very honest about what to expect in the Cursillo weekend and life after the weekend. We also do not want to promote Cursillo as an elite group. A good Cursillistas is nothing more than a good catholic. We are Catholic's that use a method to know, love and serve God that is called Cursillo. Recognize the tripod? Know, love, serve---study, piety, action.
